2-Minute Read //
How has your perspective on literature evangelism changed?
Faith looked across the street and silently wished that no one was home. She was about to go “door to door“ for the first time. Her dad, a seasoned colporteur, handed her a copy of The Great Controversy and together they walked across the street and knocked on the door. Just as she had wished, no one was home.
For the next eight years, Faith did not participate in any more door-to-door evangelism. Then, in early 2020, she began looking for ways to engage in personal outreach. Seeing the chaos in the world made her want to share the hope that she had with others. Having the opportunity to speak with and pray for others now appealed to her. For the first time, she had a desire to take part in literature evangelism.
That year, Faith and her dad knocked on doors in neighborhoods in Morgan Hill, California. Once shy, she now takes the lead at the doors, inviting people to “read a book that helps put current events in perspective.”
Speaking of her change of heart, Faith says, “I realized the value of putting time and energy into literature evangelism,” she shares. “The most important things are becoming much clearer to me.”
Faith now helps organize literature evangelism outreach for her church in Upstate New York.
She also participates in Streams of Light International mission trips, where she helps in the distribution of copies of The Great Controversy and our health magazine – free gifts shared with thousands in neighborhoods surrounding Adventist churches.
“It is incredible to distribute books with people who are so excited about this work,” Faith says. “ I am so grateful for the way God changed my mind about literature evangelism, and for the opportunities He leads me to.”
Are you curious about door-to-door work? Join the next Streams of Light mission trip, taking place in Lansing, Michigan, April 14-21, 2024. For seven days, volunteers from across the United States will distribute 50,000 copies of The Great Controversy in this influential capital city.
