Seven days. 25,000 books. 80 volunteers. One city—Grand Rapids. It was more than a mission trip, it was a divine assignment.

When the students of Streams of Light Training Institute stepped into the city streets of Grand Rapids, they weren’t just passing out books—they were stepping into the frontline of a great spiritual harvest. For many of the students, this marked their very first time leading large-scale outreach operations. For others, it was a deeper plunge into the calling they have already embraced. But for all, it was a week of transformation, purpose, and divine appointments.

The mission trip was a massive undertaking. In partnership with churches, 30,000 copies of The Great Controversy had been prayerfully packed and prepared, waiting to reach homes in every corner of the city. With 80 volunteers—students, leaders, church members, and missionaries—this was a coordinated army of light, covering ground with speed and prayerful precision. Leadership was essential.

Students Take On Leadership Roles and Responsibilities

Aaron T.  provided consistent and Spirit-led leadership throughout the week, setting a tone of calm confidence and vision. Ivan T. and Jennifer G. kept the engine running behind the scenes, handling the ever-moving puzzle of logistics, making sure vans, books, territories, and supplies were in sync. Media coverage, testimonies, and visual storytelling were powered by the creativity and dedication of Allissa G., Alyssa A., and Cherith H., capturing not just moments, but the start of this movement in Grand Rapids. Janet M. brought the joy and power of sacred music to team worships, keeping hearts lifted and united. Meanwhile, Sienna P. led the charge for Bible study follow-up, organizing a system to ensure that no interest was left behind.

In true mission-school spirit, nearly every student also served as a driver—navigating vans across city neighborhoods, reloading teams, offering spiritual encouragement, and being the glue that kept each team mobile and effective. It was all-hands-on-deck, and every hand mattered.

Each day was dedicated to a different church territory. From the vibrant neighborhoods surrounding Kentwood SDA Church to the suburban homes near Lowell SDA and the diverse communities near Wyoming, Central, and Elwell churches, the students canvassed areas they would continue to serve throughout the semester. This wasn’t hit-and-run evangelism—it was the beginning of long-term, church-connected outreach.

Comprehensive Evangelism At Work

As the books flowed into homes, the real miracles began. Bible study interests began flooding in. Requests for prayer. Cries for Bible truth. And within just 30 minutes to an hour of a Bible study request being submitted, a joint team comprising a local pastor and students was already knocking on the door—not just to introduce themselves, but to pray with the family, secure a Bible study appointment, and drop off the very first Bible study lesson.

There was no delay, no waiting for a later date. Follow-up was immediate and deeply personal. These weren’t casual encounters—they were Spirit-led moments of connection, where hearts were softened, tears were shed, and hope was rekindled. For many of the interests, this was the first time someone had ever come to their door with answers, compassion, and a Bible in hand.

From high-rise apartments to suburban homes, from Spanish-speaking families to young professionals and seniors—God’s Spirit was moving across the city. This wasn’t just outreach. This was the beginning of discipleship.

Mission Results

The results were staggering. In just one week, over 560 people signed up for personal Bible studies through both the citywide canvassing and the Messiah’s Mansion exhibit. These were individuals from all backgrounds, walks of life, and worldviews—yet all united by one thing: they were searching, and God had led them to truth-filled literature and a community ready to walk with them.

But the mission didn’t end when the books ran out. Now, the real work begins. Each student is assigned to continue working with these churches during the school semester. Church members are mobilizing, interest coordinators are trained, and Bible studies are being assigned and followed up with care. Prayer teams are interceding. Door after door, relationship after relationship, the seeds sown are beginning to grow.

As one training institute staff member reflected, “God has allowed us to gather the berries—now we’re asking Him to help us take care of them.”

It’s not just about harvesting souls—it’s about nurturing them, walking with them, and preparing a people for the coming of the Lord. This was not a one-week outreach. This is the beginning of revival in Grand Rapids. And it’s just the beginning.
